"Embark on a journey of discovery in Saktouria, where every visitor becomes an explorer of rich history and natural beauty."

Saktouria are located in Southern Rethymno, on the northwest side of the small mountain Vouvala and on the picturesque slope of the Amigdalos hill. They have an altitude of 520 meters. To the east, they border with Melambes, to the west with Akoumia, to the north with Krya Vrysi, and to the south with the Libyan Sea. In the village's surroundings, there are 11 kilometers of beaches, with the most famous being Agios Pavlos, characterized as one of the most beautiful tourist resorts in Crete.

The history of the village begins from the Minoan era. Archaeological findings at the location of Agios Ioannis suggest the existence of the Minoan city 'Psychi.' Many years ago, English archaeologists, following their research, identified the cave in Agios Pavlos as the cave of 'Daedalus and Icarus' and also the take-off point 'Anifora.'

In later times, Saktouria suffered from pirate raids, leading to the relocation of the settlement.

The natural surroundings could not leave the inhabitants untouched. They are virtuous, proud, hospitable people with a deep religious sense (there are 17 chapels in the region, four of which date back to the Byzantine period).

The village's youth often leaves in search of employment in wealthier areas, while the older residents are full of vitality. The traditional village cafes fill up every afternoon with locals, turning into a small celebration. Some enjoy their "rakaki" (a small raki), others play "prefa." The younger generation has formed a cultural club, striving to preserve the customs, traditions, and values of the past.
